Schloss Bernburg
Bernburg, Sachsen-Anhalt
Perched on sandstone cliffs above the Saale, this Renaissance castle is known as the Crown of Anhalt. It grew out of a medieval hilltop fortress, on the site of a former river ford. Archaeologists have found traces of a large early medieval stronghold on the castle hill.
