The city's main museum covers the art and cultural history of Salzburg and its province. Since 2005 it has been housed in the Neue Residenz in the old town; it was founded in 1834 and was formerly called the Museum Carolino Augusteum. The Salzburg Museum also runs the Panorama, Fortress and Toy museums, among others, as well as the Celtic Museum in Hallein.
