Rieckhaus

Hamburg, Hamburg

This farmstead on the Curslack Elbe dyke shows how people in the Vierlande region lived and farmed before industrialisation. The open-air museum centres on a half-timbered hall house that the Rieck family worked until about 1940. The farm is documented in writing from 1633, and tree-ring dating suggests the timber frame goes back to around 1532. Carved owner inscriptions survive in the side-door lintel and a beam.
