Rheinisches Feuerwehrmuseum

Erkelenz, Nordrhein-Westfalen

Lövenich, a district of Erkelenz, is the place to come for firefighting history. Some 2,500 items fill 1,500 square metres, among them 21 fire engines built between 1930 and 1965 and nine hand-pumped fire engines from the 17th to 20th centuries. You will also see linen, leather and wooden fire buckets, turntable ladders, uniforms and 450 helmets from different countries, with the oldest pieces dating to the 15th century. The displays occupy a listed former house and the hall of an old farm-machinery workshop, joined by a courtyard.
