Neue Staatsgalerie Stuttgart

Stuttgart, Baden-Württemberg

Designed by James Stirling and Michael Wilford and built between 1979 and 1984 beside the old Staatsgalerie, this gallery is often called the epitome of Postmodernism. Travertine and sandstone meet green steel and bright pink and blue handrails. An open rotunda with a sculpture garden sits at its heart, and a public ramp and footpath leads through it up to the higher ground behind.
