The museum occupies a historic building from a former Russian army barracks complex, put up in 1890 to a design by Aleksander Woyde. It opened in 2018, growing out of the town's earlier History Room. Exhibitions range widely: historical, military, archaeological, ethnographic, technical, natural history, martyrdom and art, all tied to the story of Skierniewice and its surroundings.
