Museum Solnhofen

Solnhofen, Bayern

The limestone slabs around Solnhofen have yielded famous fossils, and this museum in the town hall shows them across two floors. You will see pterosaurs, a large collection of fossil fish and one of the eleven known specimens of the early bird Archaeopteryx. A separate section is devoted to lithography. The collection began with mayor Friedrich Mueller, who opened his private fossils to the public in 1954.
