Museum im Wettbergschen Adelshof

Bad Münder am Deister, Niedersachsen

Spread over three floors, this museum fills an old noble estate that stood on the town wall in the Middle Ages and served for defence. The von Wettberg family built a Renaissance house here in the late 16th century; the ground floor and vaulted cellars largely survive, and the builders' coat of arms still decorates the oriel. Architectural stones in the big cellar vaults show what the town looked like in earlier eras. The old spiral tower, with its deliberately uneven steps, leads up to the exhibition rooms.
