Museum für Gießen

Gießen, Hessen

History, art and ethnography share one roof at this Gießen museum, which fills the Old Castle, built around 1330 as part of the town's defences, along with two neighbouring houses, the Wallenfels and Leib houses. The castle has served as a residence, garrison building, barracks and warehouse; since 1905 it has shown collections on the history of Upper Hesse, including the industrialist Wilhelm Gail's gift of antiquities and ethnographic objects.
