Melanchthonhaus

Bretten, Baden-Württemberg

On Bretten's market square, this house stands on the site of Philipp Melanchthon's birthplace, destroyed in 1689. The neo-late-Gothic building, put up between 1897 and 1903, survives largely unchanged inside and out, with a balcony and a great gabled front. An exhibition covers Melanchthon's life and the story of the Reformation, and the house also holds a research centre and a specialist library.
