Märkisches Museum

Witten, Nordrhein-Westfalen

Modern German painting is the focus of this art museum in Witten. The building on Husemannstraße went up between 1909 and 1911 with a donation from the manufacturer Friedrich Lohmann. The museum began in 1886 as a local history collection, and that heritage lives on in its natural and cultural history holdings, including the Engelbert statue and the Strünkede tomb, as well as a collection of coins and medals.
