Henriette-Davidis-Museum

Wetter (Ruhr), Nordrhein-Westfalen

Henriette Davidis, Germany's best-known cookbook author, was born in Wengern in 1801, the same year the half-timbered house holding this museum was built. It stands in the village centre by the Elbschebach stream, close to the church. Six rooms evoke everyday Biedermeier life: an old kitchen, household tools, a children's kitchen with toys, garden implements, medical instruments and a servant's room. Around 700 Davidis books are on show, along with curiosities such as a flea trap.
