Leuchtturm Travemünde

Lübeck, Schleswig-Holstein

This red-brick tower, 31 metres high and built in 1827 in Neoclassical style, is Travemünde's landmark. It no longer serves shipping and now houses a museum. Halfway up you can see the small balcony where pilots once watched for arriving ships. A light has marked this spot at the mouth of the Trave since the 14th century.
