Königspesel

Hooge, Schleswig-Holstein

A captain's house of 1776 on the Hanswarft of Hallig Hooge shows how North Frisian seafarers lived in the 18th century. The Pesel, the best parlour, is covered entirely in blue-and-white Dutch tiles, including biblical scenes. Original furniture, box beds in alcoves and elaborate painted doors and ceilings complete the picture. The room is named after King Frederick VI of Denmark, who spent the night here during the February flood of 1825.
