Kaulbach-Haus

Bad Arolsen, Hessen

Wilhelm von Kaulbach, the history painter and illustrator, was born in this modest craftsman's house in 1804, and it ranks among the oldest buildings in the baroque town of Arolsen. His family worked as cabinetmakers for the princes of Waldeck and for townspeople, and furniture examples and the original joiner's workshop show their trade. Paintings and prints trace the Kaulbach family of artists, while hands-on stations explain wood, craftsmanship and how furniture and interiors changed in the 19th century.
