Museum Stadt Bad Hersfeld

Bad Hersfeld, Hessen

Housed in the east wing of the former Benedictine monastery right beside the abbey ruins, this town museum traces the story of the abbey and the town up to the 19th century. You will find excavation finds, silver coins, monastery seals, a 14th-century knight's helmet, town models and a Biedermeier room, while the monks' chapel preserves wall and ceiling paintings from the early 11th century. The folk collection in the 19th-century Fruchtmagazin includes a complete blueprint workshop with almost 1,000 printing blocks, plus a horse-powered gear mill, a stagecoach and a shepherd's wagon.
