Heimat- und Handfeuerwaffenmuseum

Kemnath, Bayern

Housed in Kemnath's Fronveste, this museum centres on Bavaria's first rifle manufactory, which operated at Fortschau from 1689 to 1801. You can see matchlock and flintlock muskets with explanations of how they worked, plus hunting rifles made by the gunsmiths who followed. A second focus is archaeological finds from the Kemnath area, including traces of settlement more than 50,000 years old.
