Granitmuseum Bayerischer Wald

Hauzenberg, Bayern

On the grounds of a disused quarry, this museum tells the story of granite. Outside you can walk through the open-pit workings; inside, the exhibition explains how the rock formed and drifted from south-polar origins to the Bavarian Forest. A second part shows quarrying and processing up to industrialisation, the quarry workers' world and the stonemason's craft. The building by Brückner & Brückner opened in 2005.
