Gemäldegalerie der Akademie der bildenden Künste Wien

Wien, Wien

Around 1,600 paintings hang in this gallery inside the academy building on Schillerplatz, designed by Theophil von Hansen. The range runs from early Italian panel painting of the 14th and 15th centuries to work from the academy's circle. The core came from prize pieces and admission works by academy members, joined in 1822 by the painting collection of Count Lamberg-Sprinzenstein.
