Fort VII w Poznaniu

Poznań, wielkopolskie

This 19th-century Prussian fort, built in 1876–1880 as part of the ring of defences around Poznań, became the first concentration camp in occupied Poland in October 1939. It later served as a Gestapo prison and a transit camp until 1944. Today it is a memorial to the Poles from Poznań and the surrounding region who were imprisoned and killed here, and visitors walk through the fort where it all took place.
