Feuerwehrmuseum Stuttgart

Stuttgart, Baden-Württemberg

Housed in a former factory in Stuttgart's Münster district, this museum traces how the city fought fires, from unorganised firefighting through the first ducal and royal fire regulations to a permanently staffed professional brigade. Exhibits include a wooden water pipe, leather and hemp buckets, early extinguishing and rescue gear, uniforms, helmets, flags and fire alarms, plus horse-drawn fire pumps. A 900 m² gallery uses old plans and photographs to show the city's growth and water supply.
