Europäisches Hansemuseum
Lübeck, Schleswig-Holstein
Anyone curious about how the Hanseatic League tied together trade and towns across northern Europe will find the story told here, in the northern part of Lübeck's old town beside the Burgkloster. The permanent exhibition combines original objects, interactive stations and staged scenes from trading ports such as Novgorod, Bruges, Bergen and London, as well as Lübeck itself. Among the originals are documents, paintings and gold and silver coins from the Lübeck Hoard. The museum opened in 2015 on a site once occupied by a wartime air-raid bunker and a seamen's home, and extensive archaeological finds there shaped its construction.
