Deutsches Erdölmuseum Wietze

Wietze, Niedersachsen

Set on part of the former Wietze oil field, this museum explains how oil forms, is found, extracted, processed and used. The permanent exhibition gives special attention to local oil production, which goes back to 1652. The two-hectare open-air site by the Wietze stream holds working oil-field equipment from before 1930, now protected as a monument.
