Brahms-Haus

Mürzzuschlag, Steiermark

Johannes Brahms spent the summers of 1884 and 1885 in this house, nine months in all, and wrote his Fourth Symphony here. His restored living quarters now hold a permanent exhibition with photographs, personal items, a grand piano he owned, and the story of the friends who visited him. The house itself dates from the sixteenth century and has a courtyard arcade and a stuccoed ceiling from the early 1700s.
