Bergbau- und Stadtmuseum Stadt Weilburg an der Lahn

Weilburg, Hessen

Beneath the baroque chancellery building of Weilburg castle lies a show mine: over 200 metres you see extraction, haulage equipment and shaft and gallery lining, with working original machinery. The ground floor covers the region's mining, from iron ore, slate and phosphorite to marble and clay. The first floor leads chronologically through the town's history from 906, with prehistoric finds, a shame mask and an executioner's axe, a complete pharmacy and a butterfly collection.
