Hamburg, Hamburg
Between 1850 and 1939, more than five million people left Europe by way of Hamburg. On the Elbe island of Veddel, three faithfully rebuilt emigration halls stand on the site of the original complex that Albert Ballin had built for the Hapag shipping line in 1901. The exhibition follows the emigrants' departure, their living conditions and their voyage, and widens to migration from the 16th century to today.
