Deep in the Ahr Valley, between Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler and Dernau, lies West Germany's former government bunker. The 17.3-kilometre complex, about 25 kilometres south of Bonn, was built to keep the government and parliament working in a war or severe crisis. It went by cover names such as Rosengarten and Dienststelle Marienthal, and it is a Cold War relic.
