Archäologisches Freilichtmuseum Funkenburg

Westgreußen, Thüringen

On a hill spur at the edge of Westgreußen stands a reconstructed Germanic fortified settlement, inhabited between 200 BC and AD 50. Palisades, ramparts and ditches protect it, rebuilt after 1970s excavations that found 60 huts and about 500 pits. The open-air museum opened in 2003.
