Anhaltische Gemäldegalerie

Dessau-Roßlau, Sachsen-Anhalt

Old Master paintings are the focus of this art museum in Schloss Georgium, set in a park that belongs to the Dessau-Wörlitz Garden Realm, a UNESCO World Heritage site. The collection grew from the paintings of Princess Henriette Amalie of Anhalt-Dessau, which opened in 1793 as the city's first public art collection. The gallery has occupied the palace since 1959, after its earlier building was destroyed in the war. The Bauhaus building and the main railway station are close by.
