Altfriesisches Haus

Sylt, Schleswig-Holstein

This low, thatched Frisian house in Keitum, right by the Wadden Sea, was built in 1739 for a sea captain, and nautical motifs among the furnishings recall that. In the 19th century it was home to the teacher, chronicler and collector Christian Peter Hansen, whose collection forms the core of the museum, opened in 1908. The house itself shows the post-frame construction typical of Uthland Frisian homes.
