Visitors can climb aboard a Soviet Tango-class submarine, now a museum ship in Hamburg. Built in Nizhny Novgorod in 1976 for the Northern Fleet, it carries a thick rubber coating that made sonar detection harder. A crew of 78 once operated it; its engine and hydraulics are now deactivated. The cramped interior gives a feel for life on board.
