Tötungsanstalt Pirna-Sonnenstein

Pirna, Sachsen

On the Sonnenstein above Pirna, a memorial site recalls a Nazi killing centre. In the former fortress, converted into a hospital in 1811, the Nazis murdered at least 14,751 people in 1940 and 1941, mostly people with mental illness or intellectual disabilities, along with concentration camp prisoners, as part of the Aktion T4 programme.
