A memorial museum stands on the site of the former German concentration camp at Sztutowo, about 36 km from Gdańsk. The camp operated from 2 September 1939 until 9 May 1945, and some 110,000 prisoners from 28 countries passed through it. Most of the buildings were destroyed or dismantled after the war; the museum was set up in 1962 in what remained.
