Stadtmuseum Rottweil

Rottweil (Kernstadt), Baden-Württemberg

Housed in the Herder'sche Haus on Hauptstraße since 1884, this museum traces the story of Rottweil as a former free imperial city. The imperial court of justice and the town's ties to the Swiss Confederation take centre stage, alongside a section on everyday life in Rottweil between 1750 and 1870. The local carnival tradition, the Fastnacht, has its own place too. A highlight is the Herrenkramer nativity scene, a Baroque play crib that is brought to life with performances in the Christmas season.
