Städtische Sammlungen Freital

Freital, Sachsen

Housed in Schloss Burgk, this museum covers more than 500 years of coal mining in the area, along with town and regional history and a recreated underground scene of Wismut uranium mining. In the castle park, a show mine takes you to coal seams underground. Look for Dorothea, the world's first electric mine locomotive, in use from 1882. Two art collections of Saxon art from the 19th and 20th centuries form the second focus.
