Stadtgeschichtliches Heimatmuseum Uetersen

Uetersen, Schleswig-Holstein

Set in Uetersen's old gasworks of 1855, near the convent in the old town, this volunteer-run museum traces the town's history from a 13th-century village to today. Topics include guilds, rose growing, shipping, shipyards and Uetersen whaling. Upstairs are paper models of the old town, a display on the painter Kurt Roth and construction drawings for Franz Kruckenberg's rail zeppelin. Side rooms hold an old bakery, a 19th-century middle-class parlour and engines from the ILO works in Pinneberg.
