Schaukraftwerk Gewerkschaft Radhausberg

Bad Gastein, Salzburg

Built in 1911, this power station supplied the gold mines at Nassfeld, today's Sportgastein, with electricity from the waters of the Bockhartsee. You can see the two generator sets, with a combined 350 kW, and a compressor from 1914 that produced compressed air for the rock drills in the tunnels. Eye-catching is the 20-metre drive belt made of cowhide. Until 1944 the power served the mines, later the Gastein healing tunnel; the plant was shut down in 1984.
