Salinenpark Traunstein

Traunstein, Bayern

This open-air museum tells the story of the 1619 brine pipeline that carried salt brine from Bad Reichenhall to Traunstein. The main attractions are a reconstructed Reiffenstuel pump with water wheel and an original 19th-century water-column engine that still works. The park is laid out among flower meadows, fruit trees and an apothecary's garden, with views of the baroque saltworks buildings. It is freely accessible, and an exhibition in the Ferdinandistock adds more on the pipeline.
