Römisches Museum für Kur- und Badewesen

Neustadt an der Donau, Bayern

The old Romanesque church of St Andrew in Bad Gögging now houses a museum of Roman bathing culture. Built around 1200, it stands right over the main pool of one of the largest Roman bath complexes north of the Alps, so you walk through the ancient bathing remains inside the church itself. The building was remodelled in the Baroque style in the 18th century, and excavations beneath it also turned up traces of an earlier church from the 7th or 8th century.
