Pfahlbau- und Klostermuseum Mondsee

Mondsee, Oberösterreich

Stone Age and monastery history meet here. The pile-dwelling museum fills over 400 square metres with finds of the Mondsee culture: pottery, stone tools, organic remains and the story of pile-dwelling research on Lake Mondsee and Lake Attersee. The monastery museum, in rooms of the former abbey, covers over 1,000 square metres of sacred art, book illumination and folk culture. Look for the Benedict chapel with frescoes from the late 13th century, the prayer choir and the Gothic monastery library.
