Neanderthal Museum

Mettmann, Nordrhein-Westfalen

The Neander Valley is where the famous Neanderthal fossil turned up, and this museum tells the story of human evolution on the spot. Inside the oval building, a step-free ramp winds from the entrance to the top floor, with the displays following the epochs roughly in order. The grounds also hold an archaeological park at the discovery site, a Stone Age workshop and an art trail.
