Narrenmuseum Niggelturm

Gengenbach, Baden-Württemberg

Housed in the Niggelturm, a tower of Gengenbach's old town fortifications, this museum is devoted to the Swabian-Alemannic carnival, known locally as Fasend. Life-size carnival figures stand alongside costumes and masks from across the region, with displays on fool's clothing and on how the wooden masks are made. On the first floor a multimedia show traces the history of Gengenbach's carnival, joined by lion and fright masks and a model of the tower.
