Muzeum Przyrodnicze Instytutu Systematyki i Ewolucji Zwierząt PAN

Kraków, małopolskie

This natural history museum on ulica św. Sebastiana in Kraków is best known for its woolly rhinoceros, found at Starunia near Stanisławów and acquired in 1929. The animal survives as a complete preserved specimen, which is rare for this extinct species. A permanent exhibition on molluscs shows the shells of extinct ammonites alongside living species, as well as objects made from mother-of-pearl and pearls. The collection goes back to 1865, when it began with a donated set of birds.
