The museum stands inside Eisenheim, one of the oldest workers' housing estates in the Ruhr region. Its permanent exhibition follows the settlement's founding, growth, decline and fresh start. A museum flat in one of the workers' houses adds photos and documents on daily life. Residents themselves began the museum in a former wash house.
