Museum der Grafschaft Rantzau

Barmstedt, Schleswig-Holstein

On Barmstedt's castle island, this museum tells the story of the County of Rantzau, created in 1650 and confiscated by the Danish king in 1721. It also follows the history of the town and its surroundings from early times onward, with an emphasis on farming and crafts, especially shoemaking, as Barmstedt was known as a cobblers' town in the 19th century. The 1863 building is a former district court with about 200 square metres of exhibition space.
