Museum 1915–18

Kötschach-Mauthen, Kärnten

Housed in the town hall of Kötschach-Mauthen, this museum covers the mountain war of 1915–1918 between Austria-Hungary and Italy. Over more than 600 square metres, photographs, documents, finds and reconstructed alpine positions trace the front from the Ortler to the Isonzo. The story is told through the fates of ordinary soldiers and civilians on both sides, with a clear message for peace. The museum is accessible for wheelchair users and has a play corner for children.
