Moor- und Fehnmuseum Elisabethfehn
Barßel, Niedersachsen
Beside the Elisabethfehn canal, this museum shows how people settled and cultivated the bog. In the old canal keeper's house of 1896 and a typical Fehn house, pictures, models and exhibits explain how moors form, which plants and animals live there, and what life was like for the settlers. Out on the grounds stand historic machines used for cutting peat.
