Markgräfliches Opernhaus

Bayreuth, Bayern

A Baroque theatre from the 18th century that has survived almost unchanged. Its sandstone façade carries large Corinthian columns and, up top, sculptures of Minerva, Apollo and the Muses. The wooden interior is Italian Late Baroque, designed by Giuseppe Galli Bibiena and his son Carlo. It became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2012. Locals simply call it the Opernhaus, to tell it from Wagner's Festspielhaus.
