Limeskastell Pohl

Rheinland-Pfalz, Rheinland-Pfalz

A small Roman border fort once stood at the edge of Pohl on the Upper Germanic Limes, now a UNESCO World Heritage site. The spot, about 337 metres up, was well chosen: the Limes turned sharply by around 75 degrees here and met a road coming from the Rhine valley. Today the fort survives as an archaeological site on the edge of the village.
