Kupferstichkabinett Dresden

Dresden, Sachsen

Drawings, prints and photographs are the focus of this museum in Dresden's Residenzschloss. Its roots lie in the Saxon electors' art chamber of around 1560, and it became a museum in its own right in 1720, which it says makes it the oldest museum of graphic arts in the German-speaking world. The holdings run to more than 500,000 sheets, of which only a fraction can be shown at a time. The Josef Hegenbarth Archive is part of the collection.
